Human League wants you Off the Couch ... for charity

Challenge your co-workers, friends and family to get off the couch to help get kids off the sidelines.

Greater Sudbury charity The Human League unveiled its newest campaign this week: the Get Off the Couch Challenge.

The goal is to raise awareness of the need for physical activity as an important element in a healthy lifestyle. Organizers encourage participants to take the challenge, capture some of it on film, upload that film to social media and tag the Human League Association and two friends in their post.

“It’s kind of like the Ice Bucket challenge meets the Participaction movement from the '70s,” says Leanne Lavoie, a Human League volunteer. “We want people to get moving, but we also encourage everyone to get creative.

“Imagine your boss taking a ballet class with his young daughter; challenge your friend to a Jiu Jitsu class or go sliding with some local kids. We need help to raise funds for the one in three local families who can’t afford to enrol their kids in sport, and we think this is a fun way to do it.”

Once you've completed your challenge, participants are asked to make a donation to the charity in any amount, and challenge at least two others to do the same.
