Blaming the challenges of highway construction in the Canadian Shield, ongoing environmental assessments and continuing discussions with three First Nations, Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca told reporters today the completion date to four-lane Highway 69 will have to be pushed back by several years.

Del Duca and Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault stood on the side of the highway near Alban, about 45 minutes south of Sudbury, to deliver the message in biting winds.

The minister said the new completion date will be sometime between 2019 and 2021.
