Past Northern Ontario Business and Sudbury Living Magazine publisher Patricia Mills has been selected as a torchbearer in the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay.

As a presenting partner of the Pan Am Games Torch Relay, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) invited the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce to participate in the OLG Pass it ONtario Program, which gives Ontarians the opportunity to be a Pan Am torchbearer.

The Torch Relay starts May 30. The 41-day journey will share the Pan Am Games spirit in more than 130 communities and will make its final stop July 10, at the Opening Ceremony in Toronto.

“It is quite an honour to be chosen to represent all of our community champions,” said Mills, previous recipient of the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce New Venture Award. “The Pan Am Games will showcase the best Canada has to offer, and I am proud to help spread the excitement in Sudbury.”

Through the OLG Pass It ONtario Program, the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce selected Mills to carry the Pan Am torch as it makes its way through Sudbury because she embodies the core characteristics of the Torch Relay: community, celebration, participation and pride.

“A champion in our community, Patricia signifies the spirit of a Pan Am torchbearer, volunteering much of her time to local charitable organizations,” said Debbi Nicholson, president and CEO of the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce.

“Patricia is the creative mind behind a number of Northern Ontario publications and events that showcase the amazing people, places and things our communities have to offer. By carrying the torch, Patricia will share the excitement and spirit of the Pan Am Games with all of us.”

“OLG would like to thank the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce for selecting an outstanding member of the community to carry the torch through the OLG Pass It ONtario Program,” said Stephen Rigby, president and CEO of OLG.

“We are thrilled to be able to give exceptional people from across the province the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become a Pan Am torchbearer and help ignite the spirit of the Pan Am Games. Congratulations, Patricia.”
