Construction delays mean an Elm Street building under construction for the Laurentian University School of Architecture won't be completed until the winter of 2016.

The new building, which represents Phase 2 of architecture school construction, was originally supposed to be completed by this fall.

Bondfield Construction has the contract for the $23.9-million building, which has been under construction for about a year.

“It's not like we haven't known the possibilities of (delays) on a big project,” said Terrance Galvin, the architecture school's founding director.

Students currently attend classes in the former Market Square building, which was refurbished for use by the school, as well as at St. Andrew's Place. Faculty are housed in the nearby CP telegraph building, which was also refurbished.

Galvin said he's currently in the process of renting more space in the downtown to hold classes this fall. The architecture school, which opened in 2013, will have slightly less than 200 students in September.
