As a strike deadline approaches, the Rainbow District School Board and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) will continue negotiations April 25.

Board spokesperson Nicole Charette said in an email the board has requested a mediator to help facilitate the bargaining process on Saturday. The two sides also met April 22.

“The board continues to negotiate and is committed to reaching a local settlement,” the press release said.

If a settlement is not reached by April 27, the board's high school teachers will go on strike.

If that happens, all instructional programs for grades 9 to 12 would be cancelled, and all Rainbow secondary schools would be closed to students.

Public high school teachers with the Durham District School Board already went on strike April 20.

Charette said a negotiations update will be provided on the weekend.
