Around 500 high school teachers are marching this morning in downtown Sudbury.

The teachers, who are members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF), are marching at the United Steelworkers Hall, located at 66 Brady Street, at 10:30 a.m.

They will move up the eastbound lanes of Brady Street, to the intersection with Minto Street. They will then march north on Minto Street, and then east on Larch Street.

The teachers plan to end their march at 69 Young Street, where the Rainbow District School Board offices are located.

Young Street will be completely shut down for approximately 20 minutes as members rally at that location.

At around 1:30 p.m. the OSSTF members will head back to the Steelworkers Hall using the same route.

Motorists are advised that between 10:30 a.m. And 11 a.m. the following roads will be closed:

- East and West bound lanes from 66 Brady St. to Minto Street Broadway Street.

- Larch Street between Minto Street and Young Street.

- Minto Street between Brady Street and Larch Street.

The following streets will also be closed between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to allow OSSTF members to safely return to the Steelworkers Hall:

- Larch Street between Minto Street and Young Street

- Minto Street between Brady Street and Larch Street

- Westbound lanes of Brady Street.

The teachers' union has said they went on strike April 25 because of “the employer’s refusal to engage in real negotiations.”

Rainbow District secondary schools have been closed to students since April 27.
