There will be a federal byelection in Sudbury on Monday, Oct. 19, Elections Canada announced Sunday.

The ridings of Ottawa West-Nepean and Peterborough will also have byelections the same day to fill vacancies in the House of Commons.

Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault, who was formerly Sudbury's federal representative with the NDP, announced he would step down from his role as Sudbury MP in December 2014.

He ran for the Ontario Liberal Party in Sudbury's provincial byelection, and later won that seat.

The OPP is currently investigating allegations the Liberals offered job appointments to Andrew Olivier, who intended to run for the party, but later ran as an independent after Liberal Party brass chose Thibeault as their candidate.

The broader federal election is also expected to be on Oct. 19.
