Former Supreme Court Justice Frank Iacobucci will be in Sudbury on May 26 to share his observations on how Canada can improve its relationship with First Nations communities.

In 2013, the Ontario government appointed Iacobucci as its lead negotiator in discussions with chiefs of the Matawa Tribal Council on resource developments in the Ring of Fire.

Former Ontario Premier and Liberal MP Bob Rae represented the chiefs of the Matawa Tribal Council in those negotiations.

In March 2014, the province and the nine communities of the Matawa First Nations negotiated a “milestone” framework agreement on how to move forward with mineral and community development in the Ring of Fire.

Iacobucci will speak in a Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce Presidents Series Luncheon at the Holiday Inn, on Regent Street, at 12:50 p.m.

More information about his keynote address is available here.
