Hydro One cleaning up its mess near Moonlight Beach

Hydro One workers recently left a lot of upturned earth and large tracks from heavy equipment near Moonlight beach while replacing hydro poles, but the corporation is working on restoring the land, says a spokesperson.

Hydro One replaced 137 wood hydro poles near Ramsey Lake's Moonlight Beach this year as part of its annual pole replacement program – which replaces 11,000 poles across the province each year.

“They were due for replacement, and that's to ensure reliability in the area,” said Hydro One spokesperson Tiziana Baccega Rosa.

The hydro poles in the area were more than 50 years old on average, she said, and the line they support serves 10,000 customers.

“Due to extreme weather this year that right of way was hard to access, and they had to bring in bigger equipment,” Baccega Rosa said. “That's why we see a lot of that upturned soil.”

A NorthernLife.ca reader sent in more than 50 photos of upturned land and large puddles in the area, caused by the large equipment.

Baccega Rosa said Hydro One will “attempt to restore as best as possible given the really wet rainy conditions we're having across the province.”
