Three seniors' care facilities made Seniors Month 2015 an extra special one for three lucky winners.

St. Joseph’s Villa, Villa St. Gabriel Villa and St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre all unveiled the winners in June during Seniors Month, when all three facilities launched a new program, “Make a Wish.”

In seeking to enhance the lives of residents and patients, each care facility granted one resident or patient's wish.

During the month of May, all facilities accepted submissions of wishes that would provide a unique and meaningful experience for a resident or patient from family members, friends, volunteers and staff.

All submissions were reviewed by a committee of four, utilizing a rated set of criteria to pick one winner for each facility.

At St. Gabriel, one resident will receive a comfortable ride to Bell Park, where they can sit and read the newspaper. Staff is busy making arrangements for this special ride.

A patient from the medically complex unit at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre who has a sweet tooth will be treated to a variety of desserts from Dairy Queen and Tim Horton’s that will work within the patient’s dietary restrictions.

Harriet Dempsey of St. Joseph’s Villa was the third winner in the Make a Wish program.

She wished to take her four children and their spouses to Perkins for dinner. The staff is working on booking transportation and helping Dempsey get ready for the event with a hair appointment.
