On the eve of his visit to Greater Sudbury, Federal NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair visited Thunder Bay on Sunday, where he touted his plan to create jobs in the North.

“After 10 years of (Prime Minister) Stephen Harper, we have seen development stalled, jobs lost, and opportunities missed in Northern Ontario,” said Mulcair, in a news release. “Stephen Harper’s plan just isn’t working. A nation-to-nation approach with Indigenous communities, as well as cooperation with the province and municipalities, is needed so we can move forward with projects like the Ring of Fire and Shoal Lake Road.”

If successful, the Ring of Fire would create thousands of high-quality middle-class jobs, the release said.

“The NDP is committed to building relationships across Northern Ontario to responsibly develop the Ring of Fire.”

Mulcair will be in Sudbury for a quick visit Monday morning, before heading to Sturgeon falls in the early afternoon, then on to North Bay for an early evening event.

Mulcair has been leading opinion polls in recent months as Canadians draw nearer to the Oct. 19 federal vote. However, neither the NDP, Conservatives or the Liberals have enough support to form a government on their own.
