The Commuter Challenge is a friendly national competition that aims to promote sustainable transportation to the workplace. Sudbury has been competing against cities of a similar size across Canada for the past four years.

Employees with Vale, Laurentian University and the City of Greater Sudbury travelled the most kilometres through the program.

Rainbow Routes and Tuco's Taco Lounge were recognized for achieving full participation in the workplace.

This year, Greater Sudbury came in fourth place in its population category in Canada by walking, cycling, taking transit, telecommuting and carpooling between May 31 and June 6.

With 27 organizations signing up for the challenge, Greater Sudbury had 266 participants, surpassing last year’s number of 162 participants.
Together, participants in Greater Sudbury saved 1,533 litres of fuel, 3,810 kilograms of carbon dioxide and burned 224,106 calories.
