Spill update: Falconbridge Road has been re-opened

The roadway was partially closed this morning after a city garbage truck and another large truck collided, spilling approximately 100 litres of hydraulic fluid onto Falconbridge Road.

The city said earlier today that fluid was contained before it reached storm sewers or catch basins. Crews have been on-site since the incident cleaning up the spill.

Greater Sudbury Police were also on hand to direct traffic.
 

Updated at 9:55 a.m. — The city has released some information about the collision that occurred on Falconbridge Road near The Kingsway this morning.


A news release from the city states a a garbage truck and another large vehicle collided, spilling around 100 litres of hydraulic fluid on Falconbridge Road. The city says the spill was contained before it reached catch basins or the municipal sewer system.

No one was injured in the crash. City crews are on site and are laying absorbent material to collect the spill. The Ministry of the Environment has been notified and Greater Sudbury Police are investigating the accident.

The crash has closed the southbound lanes on Falconbridge Road between Frobisher Street and The Kingway until further notice. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction.

Motorists are advised to take alternate routes until further notice.

Although Falconbridge Road remains open, crews are cleaning up what appears to be a spill on the busy roadway this morning.

NorthernLife.ca has a reporter on the site, which is near Crosstown Chevrolet. A message has been left with Greater Sudbury Police Service for more information about the incident.

Staff at Crosstown told NorthernLife.ca that two trucks, one a garbage truck, collided a short time ago, spilling diesel fuel onto the roadway.

Absorbent was being spread on that section of Falconbridge when NorthernLife.ca arrived.

Traffic is being directed around the area of the incident.
