Want to advise Greater Sudbury city council? Here's how

Positions are still available on a number of Greater Sudbury citizen advisory panels. These panels provide their advice, expertise and information to the Greater Sudbury city council.

Positions are still available on a number of Greater Sudbury citizen advisory panels.

These panels provide their advice, expertise and information to the Greater Sudbury city council. Want to have your ideas heard? For starters you must be 18 years of age or older and be a resident of the city of Greater Sudbury.

The deadline for applications is coming up fast and the last day to submit yours is Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m.

Appointments for these councils are for a term that will end on Nov. 30, 2018, unless otherwise noted, and these are volunteer positions.

The positions that are available are as follows:

Accessibility Advisory Panel
(Up to nine citizens to be appointed, the majority of who shall be persons with disabilities)
The panel provides advice on matters related to the accessibility of municipal services, municipal programs and municipal facilities as required under the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

Bell Park Advisory Panel
(Eight citizens to be appointed, including: two neighbourhood representatives, two user group representatives, four community members)
The panel serves as a link between the City of Greater Sudbury and the various stakeholders of Bell Park and the community at large, ensuring that the facility continues to be Greater Sudbury's premier outdoor public space, which is open and accessible to all.

The Greater Sudbury New Downtown Market Working Group
(Two former or current Market vendors to be appointed and up to five citizens who demonstrate one or more of the following competencies: event planning, marketing, retail operations, agriculture, and financial management)
The Working Group provides advice and recommendations to Council and staff through the Community Services Committee on matters related to the operation and management of the City of Greater Sudbury's public market, in accordance with article 48 of By-law 2011-235, the City's Council Procedure By-law.

Lakes (Watershed) Advisory Panel
(Eight citizens to be appointed, preferably members of Lake Stewardship groups)
The panel provides advice, information and expertise to the City of Greater Sudbury and its Lake Water Quality Program on matters relating to the quality of health of our lakes, watercourses and watersheds.

Municipal Heritage Advisory Panel
(Five to seven citizens to be appointed with expertise in local history, culture, architecture, geography or anthropology)
This panel advises and assists Council on matters relating to Parts IV and V of the Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990 c. 0.18.

Seniors’ Advisory Panel
(Three citizens of any age over 18 with a vital interest in seniors' issues such as health, research and education to be appointed and six representatives age 50+)
The goals of this panel are to promote, maintain and enhance seniors' quality of life in the City of Greater Sudbury through consultation, education, advice and advocacy, to advise and respond to requests from the Mayor and Council, and to promote the development of a continuum of services for seniors.

Solid Waste Advisory Panel
(Six to eight citizens to be appointed)
This panel functions as Council's public liaison on current solid waste management issues.

  • Request by mail. Call 705-674-4455, ext. 4209 
  • In person at Greater Sudbury Public Libraries or at the Office of the City Clerk, Tom Davies Square, 200 Brady Street, Sudbury. 

The City Clerk's Office will include all applications on the Nominating Committee Agenda for September 29, 2015.

The appointments will be ratified by City Council at its next regular meeting. A letter will be sent to all appointed applicants to inform them of Council's decision.

Appointments by city of Greater Sudbury Council are based on equal opportunity and are reflective of the demographic and geographical makeup of the city of Greater Sudbury.
