Ontario is investing in the expansion of a training centre in Azilda to help skilled tradespeople access the equipment, training and facilities they need to get good jobs.

With an investment of $388,500 from the province's Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), the Carpenters Training Centre is constructing a 3,500-square-foot addition to its training centre.

This new space will be used for a drywall, acoustic and lathing apprenticeship program, and a new carpenter apprenticeship program. The investment will help the centre respond to an increasing demand for its trades training and skills programs.

“I’m pleased to see our government showing its support for skills training in Northern Ontario,” said Sudbuy MPP Glenn Thibeault. "As a result of this funding, the Carpenters and Joiners Union Local 2486 will be able to expand its training centre, providing much needed space to train the people who are helping to build Ontario up.”

This funding is part of the largest infrastructure investment in Ontario’s history — more than $130 billion over 10 years, which will support more than 110,000 jobs per year on average, with projects such as roads, bridges, transit systems, schools and hospitals across the province.

In a new release, the Liberal government said its long-term infrastructure plan for Ontario will help connect regions, develop new economic opportunities and improve quality of life for Ontarians by supporting critical infrastructure projects in cities, towns, and rural and remote communities all across the province.
