Thanks to the help of Sun Life Financial, one of the treatment rooms at Health Sciences North’s North Eastern Centre for Kids (NEO Kids) has been transformed with the addition of a dinosaur treatment bed and décor.

Treatment rooms can be very intimidating spaces for children. Medical exam tables fill much of the space and create a very clinical atmosphere.

“Our team at Donald K Brown Insurance Agency feels strongly about giving back to our community, so you can imagine how excited we were about purchasing a dinosaur bed for the NEO kids outpatient clinic,” said Patty Udeschini, advisor, Sun Life Financial.

“It makes us happy knowing we've done a good thing in helping to make every child's hospital visit a more pleasant experience.”

NEO Kids is Health Sciences North’s centre of excellence for children’s outpatient care. Located at the Ramsey Lake Health Centre, NEO Kids provides over 20 specialized clinics and services to children from across northeastern Ontario. Each year, there are approximately 35,000 patient visits to NEO Kids.

Health Sciences North is proposing to expand NEO Kids by up to 40,000 square feet. Such an expansion would allow NEO Kids to both increase the capacity of its existing clinics, and provide new outpatient services for children across northeastern Ontario.

“I would like to thank Sun Life Financial for purchasing the dinosaur treatment bed for our NEO Kids clinics,” said Dr. Sean Murray, a pediatrician and Medical Director of HSN’s Family and Child Program, which includes NEO Kids. “This has resulted in a treatment space for children that is kid-friendly and welcoming for families.”

“Health Sciences North Foundation would like to thank Sun Life Financial for the continued support they have shown for the tiniest patients of Health Sciences North and their families,” said Mary Lou Hussak, executive director, Health Sciences North Foundation.

”The dinosaur bed will be utilized each day in the temporary location of NEO Kids and will be moved to its new home once it has been built.”
