Malachi Slack and his grandmother Marlene hosted Malachi’s Lemonade Stand on Aug. 28 and raised an impressive $640.90.

The fundraiser was held at Health Sciences North’s Ramsey Lake Health Centre. Malachi’s mother Sarah, and father Joshua; an employee at Health Sciences North, are very proud and supportive of their son’s efforts and joined in serving lemonade to the many patients and staff on site that day.

Their efforts resulted in raising $640.90 to support NEO Kids’ Asthma Clinic.

“Malachi is a very caring person and he loves to share with others.” said Malachi’s grandmother Marlene. “In September 2014 when he was hospitalized for asthma, Malachi wanted to help other children who suffer from asthma and this was his way of helping.”

Malachi and his grandmother juiced many lemons in preparation for the day, and received wonderful reviews on the quality of the sweet treat.

“What a wonderful way to support NEO Kids’ Asthma Clinic.” said Mary Lou Hussak, executive director of Health Sciences North Foundation.

“Special thanks to Malachi and his grandmother Marlene for making and serving the delicious lemonade.”

Proceeds from Malachi’s Lemonade Stand will support children undergoing asthma treatment. Malachi was inspired to raise money to support other children who need to undergo treatment while receiving care himself in the pediatric unit.

The funds raised will purchase special supplies that are required for children living with asthma.

“The Asthma Clinic of NEO Kids is just one of over twenty clinics that are offered here in northeastern Ontario,” said Dr. Sean Murray, a pediatrician and Medical Director of HSN’s Family and Child Program, which includes NEO Kids.

“Because of the support of individuals like Malachi and his family, NEO Kids is offering high quality health care to children and their families closer to home.”

Independent fundraising events like Malachi’s Lemonade Stand enable individuals, community groups, businesses, employee groups, schools and service clubs to raise funds for Health Sciences North Foundation by organizing, managing and financially supporting their own fundraising event.
