Video: Fire in New Sudbury Thursday

A fire affecting a one-storey detatched garage on McLean Street Sept. 17 caused heavy smoke and fire damage, with an estimated loss of about $20,000.

Seventeen firefighters from three fire stations responded the the call at 8:35 a.m. Nobody was injured in the blaze.

“Always be careful when using extension cords,” said a press release from Greater Sudbury Fire Services. “Choose the proper size cord for the usage. Make sure the extension cords are not frayed and/or damaged.”

Greater Sudbury firefighters responded to a fire on McLean Street in New Sudbury Thursday afternoon that affected a storage container, confirmed Platoon chief George Lalonde.

 

The fire originated in the garage of the home and damage estimates are pegged at around $40,000, according to Lalonde.

At that time of the fire, Lalonde said around 17 firefighters were extinguishing the fire.

 

Later, Lalonde confirmed that there were no injuries and no one had to be displaced from their home. 

 

"The damage was mainly to the garage, and there was damage to the siding of the house," he said.
