In a news release, the city said Interpaving Limited, the contractor performing the Elgin Street Water Main Improvement Project, has reported it has satisfied the requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act issued to it by the Ministry of Labour following the collision.

Today, workers are to continue grading the road bed to prepare for base asphalt, which will be applied, whether permitting, Oct. 7 or Oct. 8.

Paid duty officers will control traffic and pedestrian crossings at the intersections of Elgin and Beech Streets, and Elgin and Ste. Anne Road, during paving operations.

Elgin Street remains closed to traffic between Elm and Beech Streets.

Once the road base is complete by the end of this week, residents and businesses will notice an immediate improvement in the construction zone.

The next phase of construction will complete a concrete sidewalk at the intersection of Beech and Elgin and replacement of lockstone in the remaining sidewalks.

The city said further updates on the construction schedule will be issued as available.
