A group of 105 students and members of staff from École secondaire catholique Champlain in Chelmsford, along with four elementary school students gathered to raise awareness around homelessness on Oct. 7.

The group set up an impromtu shanty town made up of cardboard boxes and tarps for their Homeless for a Night activity where they camped out at the Metro parking lot in Chelmsford.

The students got an opportunity, if even for a night, to experience the reality of being homeless. During the evening the students collected non-perishable food items and monetary donations.

All money and food collected over the course of the evening will be used to help those in need by distributing the food and using the money to purchase winter clothing.
