Becoming your own boss can be a dream come true. But for many young entrepreneurs, knowing where to start and having the money to launch or expand a business can be challenging.

That’s where the Regional Business Centre and Starter Company can help.  Young entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 to 29, who are not enrolled in school, can take advantage of a province-wide program that provides training, business skills development, mentorship and the opportunity of a grant for new or expanding business ventures.

“The business startup process can be intimidating for new entrepreneurs. Through the Starter Company Program, ambitious young people with an idea for a business can make that idea a reality and get support through the entire process,” said Judy Benvenuti, Coordinator of the Regional Business Centre.

“We’re happy to report that four local companies have successfully completed the program and have been approved for $5,000 of capital funding for their businesses as part of the most recent intake. The program has granted a total of $85,000 to 17 local businesses since its launch in 2014.”

Successful Starter Company participants for the summer 2015 intake include Le Petit Panier, Over the Top Tree Service, Kadence Music Therapy and Northern Ontario PR. More details on each of these companies are included in the attached fact sheet.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing, quarterly basis with the next intake deadline on Dec. 31. Interested groups or individuals are encouraged to contact the Regional Business Centre.
