Several local children will get the opportunity to participate in organized sports this fall thanks to those involved in the Miner's Mayhem event, held this past June 20 at Adanac Ski Hill.

Mayhem chair Donna Smrek presented the $2,500 cheque to the Human League Association for its PLAY program early this week. The PLAY program helps to cover the costs associated with extra-curricular activities and sports.

“Having local events and organizations recognize and support the importance of sports in kids’ lives helps us to continue to strive to take all kids off the sidelines, and put them into the game,” said Leanne Lavoie, volunteer for the Human League Association, in a press release.

“One hundred per cent of funds raised are used to enrol kids in sport – these dollars will go a long way in ensuring we keep more kids active over the winter months.”

“We are excited to be helping in such a big way,” Smrek said. “The event was such a huge success, and the success is multiplied several times over when we see how the funds raised benefit our local kids in such a direct way.”
