Glencore will resume operations at the Nickel Rim South Mine in Sudbury on Friday, Oct. 23, confirmed a company spokesperson.
Operations ceased Wednesday when a worker, later identified as Richard Pigeau, was killed at the 1660-metre level.
The Ministry of Labour sent two inspectors to the mine – an electrical and mechanical expert, and an engineer – and has issued an order that Glencore not disturb the site of the incident, confirmed ministry spokesperson Janet Deline.
Mine Mine Local 598/Unifor president Anne-Marie MacInnis said the union represented Pigeau.
But MacInnis could not provide more details regarding the incident.
In an email, Glencore spokesperson Yonaniko Grenon said the company is co-operating fully with the investigation.
"It is with deepest regret we confirm a fatality underground at our Nickel Rim South Mine this morning," Grenon said in the email. "We have informed the family of the deceased and are extending our full support to the family.”
