Noront begins exploration near Ring of Fire

Noront Resources Ltd. announced Tuesday it has started an exploration program close to its Eagle's Nest Mine in the Ring of Fire.

“Following a thorough review of its exploration data, the company is initiating this program to test high priority targets within three kilometres of Eagle's Nest,” Noront said in a news release. “The program will initially use ground geophysics and, if warranted, follow up drilling will be conducted.

The company will employ community members from local First Nations during the exploration, building “on the productive relationships that Noront has established with its community partners,” the release said.

"We are very happy to be exploring in this highly prospective area once more,” Alan Coutts, Noront president and CEO, is quoted as saying in the release. “One of the reasons it was important for Noront to consolidate the land position was to continue with this exploration effort in a systematic fashion.

"We are also pleased to be working alongside local First Nation communities as we mutually seek to explore and benefit from development opportunities in the area. It is rewarding to see opportunity and activity come together."

Noront Resources Ltd. is focused on development of the high-grade Eagle's Nest nickel, copper, platinum and palladium deposit and the high-grade chromite deposits including Blackbird, Black Thor, and Big Daddy, all of which located in the James Bay Lowlands of Ontario in an emerging metals camp known as the Ring of Fire.
