United Way Sudbury and Nipissing districts launched their community-wide fundraising event 1day4unitedway on Nov. 24.
On the first day of December, in the spirt of Giving Tuesday, a global movement promoting giving and volunteering, United Way is asking the community to take action locally to help create a better place to live, work and raise a family.
The local United Way has partnered with DiBrina Group, who have agreed to match donations received on Dec. 1.
“We're very excited about this day and the way that I envision this is that on Dec.25 Santa Claus wears his red suit and gives gifts to your family and friends and on Dec.1 United Way wears their red suits and it's our way to give back to our community,” said Mike DiBrina, DiBrina Group president.
“Hopefully on Dec. 1 our local businesses and individuals will give back to the community and make this a better place to live.”
Donation tubes will be set up at a number of local businesses, and donations can also be made online at 1Day4UnitedWay.ca.
Businesses are also being encouraged to participate in one-time fundraising activities to raise money, create awareness and promote team spirit in friendly competitions.
“When you give to 1day4united way you are taking part in a local movement and demonstrating the power of collective action and we can all accomplish together,” said Michael Cullen, executive director, United Way Sudbury and Nipissing districts.
“Our hope is to inspire past, present, and future donors to support our campaign by coming together and showing how powerful our community can be when we unite to give on one day.”
