It's been a whirlwind past few days for young Evangelina Bovay-Larose, whose generosity has turned her into a bit of a celebrity at school and online.

The young philathropist has been receiving heaps of praise for her efforts on the weekend when she trudged through the snow and winds during a frigid winter storm on Jan. 10.

On Jan. 13 she was given a certificate of appreciation by Pauline Loyer, the manager of Village International on Durham Street.

“I wanted to show my thanks to a young girl who has done so much at such a young age,” said Loyer.

“I've been collecting clothing for the (Elgin Street) Mission for years, and for her to go out on such a cold day is very admirable.”

The Walden Public School student has been getting lots of attention from her classmates and teacher, as well as online after her mother, Mallory Larose shared a NorthernLife.ca story about her efforts, and the story quickly racked up more than 1,000 shares.

“My teacher read the story to the class hung the newspaper up on the door,” said Evangelina. “It made me feel proud.”

Evangelina also received a rose quartz love stone from Loyer, which represents the youngster's caring and loving nature.

“There's people on the street who have to live in that cold weather and for (Evangelina) to go out there and help them is wonderful,” said Loyer.
