Greater Sudbury Fire and Emergency Services battled a blazing five ton truck on Feb. 9 at the Petro Pass on Regent Street.

The call came in at around 4:30 p.m. and when firefighters from the Long Lake fire station arrived on scene the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

Nobody was injured in the fire and there was no damage to nearby property.

“People said they heard an explosion come from the vehicle, but thankfully the truck was far enough away from fuel pumps that the fire didn't spread,” said George Lalonde, platoon chief, Greater Sudbury Fire and Emergency Services.

“The fire was extinguished fairly quickly.”

Lalonde says that the fire originated in the cargo area of the truck and spread to the cab.

“The cause is undetermined because the truck was so burnt out,” said Lalonde.

Greater Sudbury volunteer firefighter Brian Weight captured a video of the burning truck (see above).
