The fire at Gardewine North is officially out, but Greater Sudbury Fire Services Platoon chief Chris Stokes said Sunday that it wasn't easy.
“They were still putting out hotspots at noon today,” Stokes said. “But it has been officially been declared out and has been released to its owner.”
The Gardewine North building, located in the Walden Industrial Park, was largely destroyed by the fire, but a damage estimate isn't yet available. Because of the extensive damage, Stokes said it's likely the cause will not be found, but insurance investigators have been given access to the site.
A firefighter was hurt battling the fire, but the injury isn't serious. In all, 30 firefighters, 12 fire vehicles from six stations were called in to tackle the blaze.
Later on Saturday, another 17 firefighters from four stations were called to Embassy Court in New Sudbury, where a two-storey home suffered extensive damage estimated at $200,000.
Fire crews evacuated two people from the home, which suffered extensive smoke and fire damage.
There were no injuries.
