Sudbury's James St-Martin was treated to a day he won't soon “fugget” after winning the “Name That Horse” contest for Adult Swim Canada's Fugget About It.

The animated series is about a fromer New York mob boss who enters the witness protection program and is relocated to Regina, Saskatchewan. The show features a super suave Canadian Mountie named Straight McCool and his trusty horse, who has been only known as “Horse” up until now.

The show's creators put on a national contest to come up with a name for the horse, and St-Martin was selected as the winner, after nearly 10 months of waiting.

“I heard about the contest through Danny Smith's (one of the voice actors on the show) Facebook page,” said St-Martin.

“I figured I had nothing to lose so I might as well give it a shot.”

The details as to how St-Martin came up with his entry can't be shared right now, so as to avoid spoiling the big reveal that will take place when the episode Horse Springs Paternal airs on Feb. 26.

St-Martin entered the contest all the way back in April of last year, and was informed a short time later that he was one of three finalists out of more than 600 entries.

“I was kind of shocked that I had been picked as a finalist, then the voting wrapped up at the end of July last year and I didn't really hear anything until 10 months later when they emailed me and told me that my entry had won,” said St-Martin.

James and his wife Lori were flown to Toronto on Feb. 5 for an action-packed trip that included being chauffeured to their hotel and about town, as well as a tour of 9 Story Media Group's studio where the show is produced, and meeting the cast and crew.

St-Martin had a reunion of sorts with one of the show's voice actors, Danny Smith, who he had met on the set of Midnight Masquerade, which was shot in Sudbury.

“I was working background on that movie and Danny was one of the actors in the film, so we had met then and became friends on Facebook,” said St-Martin.

“When I walked in the room and he saw me he was shocked and was like 'what are you doing here?'”

James and Lori's final stop was at Spence Thomas Post Audio where they got to sit in on the final audio mix of the episode and got a private screening of the episode.

“The episode was really funny, I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard during an episode of an animated tv show,” said St-Martin. “I don't have the (Adult Swim) channel so I actually went to the Eastlink booth in the New Sudbury Centre to order the channel for Friday night so I can watch it again.”

The episode will air at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 on Adult Swim Canada, where the name of Straight McCool's horse will be revealed.

“It's pretty exciting,” said St-Martin. “I just want to thank everyone who voted for my entry.”
