Trillium funding benefits not-for-profits

Seven local not-for-profit organizations will split $632,500 in provincial funding that will help support various programs to benefit the community, said Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci.

“Our government has always been committed to strengthening local services in Sudbury, and through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, has been successful in enhancing the lives of many people in our community,” said Bartolucci.

Funds are being made available through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Eat Local Sudbury will receive $123,300 to develop and manage a Cooperative Community Shared Agriculture program to incorporate local foods into the Good Food Box program in post-secondary schools over the next three years.

Greater Sudbury Environmental Network (reThink Green) will receive $149,400 over the next two years to help establish a social enterprise for rethink Green, and a hub/incubator for youth social entrepreneurs.

Myths and Mirrors Community Arts will receive $115,000 to hire an administrative director.

Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury will receive $110,500 to support the position of a development and communications co-ordinator and to purchase equipment and marketing material.

St. Joseph's Health Centre will receive $50,000 to help fund the implementation of a music therapy program for the older adults.

The Northern Artist Gallery will receive $46,800 to promote Artists on Elgin.

Sudbury Theatre Centre will receive $37,500 for the production ‘Black Dog: 4 vs the World’.

“The Local Food for All project will assist the development of new and existing farmers while ensuring everyone has access to healthy and sustainable local food. The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s support will help ensure that this project will be successful in growing a robust regional food system for generations to come,” said Peggy Baillie, managing director of Eat Local Sudbury.

“We are both thrilled and appreciative of the ongoing support from the provincial government and the Ontario Trillium Foundation for supporting our vision and the strategic approach we are taking to addressing sustainability in Greater Sudbury,” said James Morin, executive director of reThink Green.

“The organizations our government is assisting are important to Sudburians of all ages and abilities and are a vital component of healthy lifestyles in our community,” said Bartolucci.
