The Municipality of Markstay-Warren declared a state of emergency April 19 due to flooding following heavy rain.

The community is located to the east of Sudbury, along the Highway 17 corridor.

According to a statement posted on the municipality's website April 20, there are currently six municipal roads closed due to flooding and washouts.

These road closures have affected 17 homes and cottages, and roughly 25 full-time residences. Among the currently-closed roads are 3rd Concession Road, MacLean Road, Nepewassi Lake Road, St. Germain Road, Sutcliffe Road and Tex's Road.

EMS and the OPP have been advised of the closures and are on notice, and able to use helicopters, if needed. The MNR has advised the municipality that water levels have peaked or will be peaking soon.

Highway 537, located in the region, between Highway 17 and Highway 69, was closed for a time during the evening of April 19 due to flooding over the highway. The Ontario Provincial Police are still asking residents to “use extreme caution” on the highway because of the continued flooding.

Residents who have any concerns are asked to phone the municipal information centre at 705-853-4536 or 1-866-710-1065. If it's an emergency, they're asked to phone 911.
