Stack brews up expansion 3 months after opening

It is a scenario most new businesses would love to be facing — within three months of selling beer to the public, Stack Brewing is already addressing the need for expansion. “I’ve just wired the deposit for bigger equipment,” said Shawn Mailloux.

It is a scenario most new businesses would love to be facing — within three months of selling beer to the public, Stack Brewing is already addressing the need for expansion.

“I’ve just wired the deposit for bigger equipment,” said Shawn Mailloux.

The size of the equipment will enable the brewery to make 15 times more beer than they are making now. Although the equipment is larger, it is still microbrewery size.

“It is a good fit for Sudbury,” said Mailloux. ““It just makes sense. It will take the same amount of time and effort to make a batch on the system that we are using now as it will take on the larger system.”

When Stack Brewery first opened at the end of June, Mailloux said it was hard to keep anything on the shelf.

“We are no longer selling out in an hour,” he added.

They are now brewing almost seven days a week and making 45 batches of beer a month in eight different styles.

The equipment has been ordered from DME, a company in P.E.I., but it will not be delivered until the end of February, 2014.

“There are huge wait times for this equipment,” said Mailloux. “It’s where the industry is right now — it’s booming.”

Mailloux said Stack Brewing has already grown by roughly 300 per cent and that this equipment will take the business to the next level. Once the equipment is in place, Mailloux will be looking at getting his beer into the LCBO, getting more accounts, producing more beer in kegs and canning.

Mailloux said when people think of Sudbury, he wants them to think of Stack beer.

“We’re opening a new chapter,” he said.
