Cambrian College donated on March 24 more than 1,000 pairs of socks to the Corner Clinic and the Elgin Street Mission.
Alison Ross, co-ordinator of the First Generation Advising Program, and Sarah Babe, a liaison officer at Cambrian College, presented the socks to Kevin Serviss, executive director of the Samaritan Centre, Danielle Bray, drop-in co-ordinator at the Corner Clinic, and Paul, a client of the clinic.
The socks were distributed to the first 1,000 fans at the Sudbury Wolves game on March 5, which pitted the Pack against the Barrie Colts. The lucky recipients were invited to lob their pair through the sunroof of a College SUV for a chance to win a GoPro camera. The socks were then collected by Cambrian student volunteers.
“After getting back to the college, to our surprise, we noticed some game attendees had purchased their own socks to toss onto the ice,” Ross said. “Their kindness meant that we had a greater number of socks to donate to those in need.”
