TORONTO - Tim Hudak is calling the deficit Ontario's last Progressive Conservative government left behind "manufactured propaganda."

Although the Tories always positioned themselves as deficit busters, the last time they were in office in Ontario they left behind a whopping shortfall.

Hudak was a cabinet minister when the Tory government under Ernie Eves was thrown out of office in 2003 and replaced by the Liberals under Dalton McGuinty.

After taking office, the new government discovered the province was in fact running a deficit of $5.6 billion.

The figure was confirmed by an independent auditor.

Nevertheless, Hudak called the deficit Liberal propaganda.
