KAPUSKASING, Ont. - Provincial police say a gas leak has forced the evacuation of residents from a radius of about two blocks in the northern Ontario town of Kapuskasing.

Const. Alain Cloutier says a mandatory emergency evacuation was begun after the gas leak was detected on Thursday afternoon.

Cloutier says the source of the leak had not been found by late afternoon.

He could not say how many people are affected.

Cloutier says residents are being housed in a local sports arena until it is declared safe for them to return.
