Off-duty cop charged in alleged assault

HAMILTON - Hamilton police say one of their officers has been charged in a domestic assault that happened while off-duty.

They say provincial police investigated the officer, who has been on the force for 27 years, after the alleged incident was reported on the weekend.

Police say the officer is charged with assault and breach of probation, and has been suspended with pay.

The officer's name has not been released because it could identify the victim.
