Youth facing child porn charges

In June 2009, the Greater Sudbury Police Service Cyber Crime Unit entered into a joint forces investigation with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Tech Crimes Unit of a suspect believed to be involved in downloading and distributing child pornography on the Internet in the Sudbury area.

As a result of the investigation, a Criminal Code search warrant was executed at a Sudbury area residence July 15. Computers and data storage devices were seized and graphic images of child sexual exploitation were located.

A 15-year-old Sudbury male was arrested and has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession of child pornography
- Make available child pornography
- Access child pornography
- Possession of child pornography

The accused, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was to appear in bail court today (July 15).

Just speculation on my part, Tapped Out. There have been many such cases in the media lately - a girl texts a racy picture of herself to her boyfriend, boyfriend gets charged with possession of child porn, becomes a community pariah, and his life is ruined.

I think most people are assuming that this boy has documents and pictures of girls (or boys) his own age...
The article doesnt clarify if the illegal pictures are of other kids in his own age group.
If they are the same age group I really dont think these charges will get far (except making it available)..its not abnormal for a 15 year old to be sexually interested in other people between 13 and 17 (or older). When hes 25 he'll probably be interested in other 25 year olds...who knows.

I think that to avoid further argument the article should perhaps clarify the approximate age of the subjects in these pictures

Where does it say he had naked pics of his 15 year old girlfriend?Read the charges,there is a lot more to this than what you think wondrinwhy.This kid is headed nowhere fast if he's doing this at 15 years old.

But anything you upload, like a naked pic of your 15 yr old girlfriend can be accessed/stolen by others, thats why its dangerous. Its not what the boy is doing with it, its what the pervs are doing once they grab the image off line.

Agreed Sandman. If we're talking about a picture that one of his female friends emailed to him (or something like that),
then the child porn charge is ridiculous.

If he was downloading and distributing honest-to-god child pornography, then he should certainly be punished.

yeah i would have to say that if it is falling uinto his peer catagory, a child porn charge is rediculous. the kids are participating in child porn I guess sexual abuse every single day...
How ever if it is not in his peer group then there is a serious problem and hopefully it will be addressed.
because that is discustingly wrong!!!!
there is no mention of whether or not it is kiddy porn or just the age demagraphic porn.

Child porn is child porn he should be locked up, also his name should be published this nonsence about him being a minor he lost his rights when he made available this smut to others. This country's laws are week and they make me sick, what a joke child porn is a drop in canadas trouble bucket. This country is in for alot of pain and suffering and its all because of shoty politiciens.

G..yes a 15 yr old taking or having pics of his/her 15 yr old girl/boy friend is kiddie porn and those kids usually get talked to to make them understand thats what it is. But its all child porn, no exceptions.

Woah, I didn't think it would have been illegal to have child porn if you are a minor...distributing it of course would be, but just having it or access to it shouldn't be.

what if this kid had a 15ish year old girlfriend and they took some photos of one another. does that count as child porn? I guess the same question could be with 17 year olds, for those sheltered enough to believe kids at 15 wouldn't do that.
