Car destroyed in train collision

Greater Sudbury Police Services responded to a call about a car being hit by a train early Saturday Oct. 31 at about 4:05 a.m. The collision occurred in the area of Lasalle Boulevard, east of Falconbridge Highway.

Greater Sudbury Police Services responded to a call about a car being hit by a train early Saturday Oct. 31 at about 4:05 a.m. The collision occurred in the area of Lasalle Boulevard, east of Falconbridge Highway.

A vehicle being operated by a 17 year old male became stuck on the tracks and the occupants were unable to remove the vehicle. The occupants observed an approaching train and attempted to stop the train prior to impact.

They were unsuccessful. They removed themselves from the track when it became apparent the train could not stop in time. No injuries were reported.

The vehicle was severely damaged as a result of the collision and was towed from the area. It was not known if the train suffered any significant damage.

Greater Sudbury Police and CP police are investigating the collision. It is not known if any charges will be laid as a result of the collision.
