A 39-year-old woman has been charged with careless driving after she hit another vehicle slowing to a stop at the CN railway crossing on Maley Drive.

The other vehicle was pushed across the tracks as the train approached.

“Thankfully, the vehicle struck cleared the crossing and was not struck by the train, or the resulting collision would have caused significant injury and damage,” stated a press release from Greater Sudbury Police.

The drivers of both vehicles received minor injuries which did not require medical attention.

A small child was in the vehicle which struck the other vehicle. The child, who was secured in a car seat, did not suffer any injury as a result of the collision.

“Had the car seat not been properly installed and used, then injury to the young child would have been a virtual guarantee as a result of the force of the initial collision,” the press release said.

The woman who struck the other vehicle from behind may also face additional costs through her vehicle insurance because of the 30-minute closure of the rail line movement.
