  • before you continue to jump all over the driver (I am not excusing the fact that he blew over the legal limit), there are many other reports out there that this kid was either pushed or he jumped....
we don't always know the whole story and you should think about that.

  • Pedestrians and bike riders have no problem with me, or the other proper drivers on the roads.
It's the bike riders, like yourself, that jump off curbs and smash into cars.
Stunned, they can't fathom why the urban myth of 'pedestrians and cyclists ALWAYS have the right of way', doesn't apply in the real world.
Gloria, you've been on a bitter, self-serving crusade ever since you cut off a car. Accepted assistance from the driver. Then waited 2 weeks to change your story. Trying to blame the innocent motorist.
Remember that anecdote? Where you initially posted they hid from you for 14 days. Only after you went to the police did they have to go seek out the driver. Hummmmm, bitter and fishy at the same time.
Obey the rules of the road glo, and you only have to fear your own incompetence then.

  • phil I sure hope you don't drive. Kind of sounds like that's a threat towards pedestrians. I don't brake the law like Idiots that don't care about any-one but themselves and they brake law's just to get even no matter who they hurt or those that have no respect for the Law as (gang members do.) You sir have the attitude of a criminal with little sense of right or wrong.

  • Perhaps it would be better JBend for them to just keep doing what they are already employing.
As I posted earlier, sooner or later the odds catch up to the "I think I have the right of way all the time" types.
Bottom line is its a self correcting problem.

  • Cyberstunned. You must be one of those people that don't look when they walk out onto the roadway just daring someone to hit them.Do every driver a favour in Sudbury and wear one of those yellow construction vests when you're out for a walk to warn drivers you're around.

You've missed the point of my post completely and that is drivers should not trust pedestrians and pedestrians should not trust drivers. It will go a long way in self preservation.

  • Newsflash cyberstun.
Parking lots are private property. The rules of the road don't apply there. Its a lawless land.
Those stop signs and pedestrian walkways inside the property? Courtesy signs. They have no clout.

Police cannot enforce the Highway Traffic Act in a mall lot.

If you get into a collision on private property, your insurance company is the decider for fault. Only gross criminal negligence can lead to a charge of Dangerous Driving in the Criminal Code. - Good luck pushing that for walking in front of a car.

Thanks for the further proof that Sudburians have no clue about pedestrian rights and the rules of the road!
Do us all a favour and hold gloira's hand when your out strolling. The odds will sooner catch up with you both.

  • And as for you jbender get your dam head out of your a$$ and maybe read a sign once in awhile. If you can blog on hear you must be able to read so how you got your licence is a mystery to me. every driver should know that in a parking lot, the pedestrian always has the right of way.
It's people with your ignorant attitude that couse most of the driving fatalities in this city and others. go back and educate yourself.

  • Gloria, youre absolutely right, phillip morris doesnt know the facts. I walk almost everywhere I go, and sure enough just yesterday I was crossing, with the lights and crosswalk signal and sure enough before i stepped off the curb, here comes another a-hole in a truck and like everyother sudbury driver out there, the lights just not RED enough. Could have been killed. And I swear that it was the little character beside phillip morris driving the truck....

  • A 15 year old from Azilda out on Notre Dame after midnight.Where are the parents? As for some here that think they have a right of way as a pedestrian better think twice before stepping out in front of a car because the car will win everytime.Just go to the Costco mall and see the stupid people walk out in front of you without even looking figuring the vehicle driver will automatically stop for them. What idiots!!!I don't trust anyone when I step out on the roadway.

  • On second thought......don't

  • Oh gloria, you still miffed you stepped out in front of a car and tried to screw them 2 weeks later?
    Give the tirade a rest.
If you are getting near misses 9/10 times your out for a walk, that should be telling you something. Because NINE out of TEN times the only constant is YOU.

Go figure. The same pedestrian getting herself into the SAME mishaps 90% of the time? Don't insult us by making it out to be some vast conspiracy.
Sooner or later the odds will catch up to you as well. Time to wake up.

  • THIS driver that hit the kid, as usual get's a slap on the wrist. Wounder who the driver is a friend of or related to. IN Sudbury that's What will decide the drivers fate. There will be no witnesses and even when the pedestrian get's well enough to tell his side he will not be believed any-way. THE POLICE seem to have already decided who is at fault even though they Have know proof. SUDBURY is a cover up,I got your back city.

  • Well Phil again you blame the pedestrian, yet you don't know the facts. Kind of sounds like you have or are friends of some-one who hit a person. I had the green light and the little man sign to cross the street and this stupid Sudbury driver turns on to the crosswalk darn near hit me and my six and four year old grandsons. THIS HAPPENS nine OUT OF TEN TIME every-time I go out for a walk. NOW tell me again that It"s my fault, that these jack asses have a right to intrude on my legal right to cross the street. What I do not understand is our City Police condoning this behavior these drivers are braking the law. I for one am going to start taking license plates and if these people are not charged there will be an internal investigation and it about time the police get a wake up call from all pedestrians. They sit behind the wheel in there cruser's watching this happen and do nothing. Shame on them.

  • how tragic this young man made a bad choice going to that party now he has paid a heavy price for it. if he hadnt of been impaired probably wouldnt have happened. just shows how one bad choice can end up in tragedy. life is fragile drugs make it even more fragile

  • The driver was not charged with any criminal offenses and have repeatedly asked for witnesses... maybe he wasn't trying to cross the street at all.....

  • Wally, the Liquor License Act would be what your looking for.
But the last thing we need is another excuse to deflect the truth off the individual.
Be it for consuming or chosing to play frogger on a full size scale.

  • local news saust left a party. probably one of those party where booze and drugs readily available. if that was the party holders should be charged with some kind of offence under the liquer act

  • According to the local news [and the officer they were interviewing] the teen wasn't crossing at a marked crosswalk....

  • You are soooo wrong, people in this city are under the impression that vehichles have the right of way weather its a pedestrian crosswalk or not. If your a pedestrian in this city you had better be ready to walk on the street in the winter because the sidewalks are rarely cleaned. And, not to mention that every sidewalk in this city seems to be open for parking by anyone who wishes. I have seen situations in this city where people with walkers or scooters have to use the streets because some inconsiderate SOB decides he has to park on the sidewalk rather than use the driveway.
Anybody waiting to make a right turn onto a major roadway will look to see that there is no traffic and then pull out. Nevermind if there happens to be a pedestrian walking in front of your car. Mother pushing a stroller with a child,,,,,,,Oh well,,,,,,thats just a close call and no matter what the weather, rain or snow or sleet, you better give the right of way to the dink in the heated car because HE'S got places to go.

  • The only "charge" laid was a 3 day blood alcohol warn? And no other charges have been laid in nearly 3 days.
Logic is that the pedestrian was responsible. People in this city are under the false impression that pedestrians are always in the right.
Sometimes you get away with a close call. Others....well..
