A roadrage incident in Azilda on March 17 has left one man with minor injuries.

Around 12:30 p.m., a silver Dodge Dakota cut off a black SUV near R.R. #35, near Notre Dame Avenue. The Dakota stopped in front of the SUV and the driver and a passenger exited the truck and approached the SUV.

Another truck, a silver Toyota, stopped. The driver exited his vehicle to assist the driver of the SUV. The two men from the Dakota knocked him to the ground and punched him numerous times.

The driver of the SUV and the injured driver of the Toyota were acquaintences, and according to Greater Sudbury Police const. Bert Lapalme, were in town for a hockey tournament. The Little Native Hockey League (LNHL or Little NHL) hockey tournament is in town this week.

As to why the Dakota cut off the SUV and picked a fight with its driver, Lapalme couldn't say. He noted there could have been a previous incident that had resulted in tempers flaring, but that wasn't known at the time.

The two suspects then fled the scene in their truck.

They are described as being in their early 20s, with thin builds and having short hair. There was a medium sized dog in the suspect's vehicle.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Greater Sudbury Police at 675-9171, or Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers at 222-TIPS(8477).

  • Got road rage?

    Then quit driving!

Road rage means your brain is incapable of driving due to impaired judgement. With that in mind, such drivers should be barred from driving for a period of time until they seek psychiatric help.

  • I agree with Casey...this isn't roadrage. more like assault with a deadly weapon...a truck. And I'd guess it had to do with the little NHL tourny.
Way too many people with big expensive trucks and not enough skill to drive them safely

  • Obviously the driver of the Dakota knew the driver of the SUV...Why else would they cut him off and then block him. lol nice attempt at spinning this into road rage but it is simply a case of attempted assault.

  • It's about time !!!! The way some people drive in this town makes me sick !!! I spend 12 hrs a day driving in & around Sudbury. I've seen every stupid stunt out there, most people think that their bulletproof once they get into their cars or trucks. Some people go as far as try to piss you off. They will pass you, then slow you down & if you get too close they flash their brake lights & give you the finger. I've driven in many big cities like Toronto, Detroit, & even New York & I've never seen a bigger concentration of dummies on the roads accept for here in Sudbury.
You drive like a retard & get away with it as long as you do it slowly.

  • Hopefully this has nothing to do with the strike.

  • I hope the Police catch those two cowards and throw them in jail.
