A traffic stop at the corner of Mabel Street and Melvin Avenue during the evening of March 9 has resulted in several charges being laid against a 20-year-old man.

He was stopped at 7:35 p.m. after officers with the Greater Sudbury Police noticed his licence plates were obscured. It was quickly discovered the plates were not for that vehicle, and the vehicle was not insured.

After arrest, the accused and the vehicle was searched, and police found a small quantity of marijuana and a set of brass knuckles.

The accused is scheduled to appear in bail court in May to answer to charges of operating a vehicle without insurance, using unauthorized plates, possession of a prohibited weapon, and possession of a controlled substance.

  • I couldn't decide whether to go with "sawed-off shotgun" or "assault rifle." ;)

  • who the hell would saw off an assault rifle?? that would make it LESS deadly no?

  • "Why would he have a set of brass knuckles for."

Because he sells drugs. People who sell drugs must defend themselves as they are constant targets.

I find it strange that you get the same charge (possession of a prohibited weapon) regardless of whether you have "brass knuckles" or a sawed-off assault rifle.

  • this typical and very common that the justice system is not addressing these common stories which keep on making the news. criminal gets licence revoked. then drives non insurance.. then gets caught again. its just a revolving door scenario. re last estimate 5000 ininsured drivers in sudbury. hello anyone home.doing the same thing over and over again and expecting things to change is the definition of insanity. the polictians are to cosy doing photo ops beating there own chests to care

  • This guy belongs in jail. Why would he have a set of brass knuckles for.He is probably a criminal who would certainly hurt someone with those brass knuckles.I'm happy that the police arrested him for not having insurance and right plates.
