City closes skate path, oval because of warm temperatures

By: Sudbury Northern Life Staff

With temperatures expected to hover around eight or nine degrees Celcius for the next few days, Greater Sudbury Police have issued a press release advising people to “be careful and use common sense” on lakes and rivers.

“Spring approaches quickly, and due care should be exercised near lakeshores, areas of moving water, pressure cracks and all rivers and creeks,” the press release stated.

The City of Greater Sudbury also announced March 5 the skating oval at Queen's Athletic Field and the Ramsey Lake Skate Path had been closed due to the mild weather.

  • just finished watching some moron on the lake with his white pickup truck and you can already begin seeing open water.. we ended up having to watch him for his own safety just in case someone could call for help..

  • Motorboat: I see where you are coming from, we shouldn't need a reminder because we should know better. But unfortunatly people do not have common sense and will play on the lakes while they are thawing out. Come on it's just like when winter starts, the police need to give out warnings to remind people roads get icy in the winter, you may be a smart person, as is beefy or myself, but the majority of people in this stupid world have NO COMMON SENSE

  • And every spring people go through the ice. And several of them drown.

  • Why beefy? Have the lakes suddenly become more dangerous than they have been during spring for the last few hundred millenia or something? Is this year somehow special?

Come on, every spring ice melts conditions become dangerous. Anyone who has lived on this planet for a few winters should already know this.

  • With all the misshaps on area lakes this time of year, I would say that people do need a reminder.

  • Asif we needed someone to tell us this. Then again we do live in a blame free society where they have to slap the 'Do not feed to children' sticker on a bottle of javex so the company doesnt get sued by some idiot looking for a free retirement.
