Members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service checked more than 300 vehicles during RIDE programs in Chelmsford and on Paris Street on the evening of Aug. 28.

Between the two locations, numerous provincial offences notices were issues for infractions such as failing to surrender driver’s license, failing to wear seat belts and using a cell phone while driving.

One driver was charged with impaired driving. Breath samples obtained from the 60-year-old man showed he had almost three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 15.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service reminds the public that RIDE checks will continue throughout 2010. “Impaired driving will not be tolerated and in some instances can result in tragic consequences,” a press release stated.
