A youth is facing charges of theft after a boat was stolen and abandoned on Whitewater Lake in Azilda.

Around 6 a.m., Greater Sudbury Police responded to a call about a small aluminum boat driving in circles about 50 metres from shore.

No one was in the boat, but witnesses reported they had heard splashing in the water and voices.

Sudbury Fire Services went to get the boat and check the lake for people while police investigated.

Police discovered the boat was stolen from an area resident, and brought in the K9 unit to track the person who had taken the boat.

The K9 unit led police to the youth, who is now facing charges.

  • someone reported hearing voices...so there were others...probably the same kids that have vandalised my yard...

  • Facing charges but nothing will happen due to being a young offender. If he had drowned parents would probably sue the owner of the boat.
