The threat was issued as the girl was being escorted out of Dumas Independent Grocers after the arrest.
Her 22-year-old boyfriend was spotted by security hiding three steaks under his shirt, then leaving the store without paying for the items, according to a press release from the Greater Sudbury Police. They were valued at $16.
When the man was questioned by police, he gave a false name. When his actual identity was confirmed, it was found he was already on probation and breaching bail terms.
His girlfriend refused to leave the store after his arrest and snatched a bottle of cleaner as she was being escorted out, yelling "I'm stealing," before threatening security. She was also arrested.
The man is facing charges of theft under $5,000, breach of probation, and breach of recognizance. The girlfriend is facing charges of theft under $5,000, uttering death threats and failing to leave the premises under the trespass to property act.
