A head-on collision between a Nissan SUV and a transport truck has ended with charges of impaired driving.

Greater Sudbury Police responded to the report of the accident on Notre Dame Avenue, just north of Ste. Anne's Road, around 3:10 a.m. on Aug. 20.

According to a press release, the driver of the Nissan was driving northbound in the southbound lane when his vehicle collided with the transport truck.

The Nissan was "completely destroyed" and the bumper of the truck damaged, police said. There were no injuries.

The driver of the Nissan was given a blood alcohol test, which he failed. He was arrested on charges of impaired driving and being over the legal blood alcohol limit.

The driver also faces charges of breach of recognizance, as he was out on bail with a condition to not drink alcohol.

  • It sounds like he has done this type of thing before.
Anyone who does this is obviously an alcoholic and needs to be put into rehab, not out on bail!

  • yep...they were out on a promise to abstain...they did not....time to throw the book at them...

  • The only thing that will stop these clowns is jail... serious jail time ! No more probation or fines...jail is the only answer

  • Another bail breacher.
Time to start re-thinking letting people out on bail and granting soft probation.

This clown made a promise to avoid pre-trial incarceration. No booze. How hard is that?
Now he basically spit in the face of justice and in turn could have killed someone. Problem is the bleeding heart socialists and organizations like Elizabeth Fry and John Howard spend all their time fighting for the 'rights' of the accused and convicted. Using our tax grants to do so. And the result? Victims pushed to the back and ignored. Criminals getting an easy go and situations just like this.

Bottom line? Lock this goof up and any other repeat offenders and bail/probation violators. You promised. You lied. You go to jail now.

  • Most of these drunk driving charges lately in Sudbury are loosers that have no insurance, no license and taking other people's vehicles. They are the ones most likely to kill you and your family members. They don't give one damm if they jump behind a vehicle impaired cause they know they will get off. There is no deterent for them. Then when someone blows 0.5 they loose their car for three days in a spot check. Maybe MADD should be looking at the statistics of the drunk drivers without liscenses and campaigning them to be given hefty jail sentences.

  • Let's hope the drunk was driving his own vehicle...once the various charges are registered as convictions, insurance rates should stop him from driving, if the courts won't...
