Man with knife arrested after advancing on woman

A 39-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly kicking and damaging a vehicle before approaching one of the passengers with a large kitchen knife on Aug. 22.

According to a press release from the Greater Sudbury Police, the man approached the vehicle, which had just parked at an apartment building, and began kicking the vehicle. Damage is estimated at about $300.

The man then left, but returned with a large kitchen knife. He raised the knife over his head and began walking toward one of the vehicle's passengers, a 22-year-old woman, who had left the vehicle and was standing in the doorway of an apartment.

She quickly stepped inside, closed the door, and phoned 9-1-1.

No one was injured in the incident. Police arrested the accused, and found he was subject to a probation order and on bail.

He is facing charges of assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous, mischief, breach of probation and breach of recognizance (bail).
