Almost 80 charges were laid in Walden after Greater Sudbury Police conducted a traffic blitz in the area.

Police targeted Niemi, Turner, Anderson, Santala, Black Lake, Maple, Kantola and Finwoods roads, as well as Sixth Avenue.

"Officers were appalled by what they observed," stated a press release from the police.

One speeding driver was stopped and found to be disqualified due to an impaired driving charge. He is now facing charges and his vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

Drivers clocking in speeds well over the 40 km/h limit in the area as well as several instances of drivers moving at speeds nearing stunt driving were ticketed by police.

In total, 79 charges were laid.

  • Well I guess if they spent more time in Lively they wouldn't be appalled because this is the norm. It is ridiculous the amount of speeders that live in Lively, Naughton, Whitefish.

  • Wow...more spiew. Your all right. bottom line, Sudbury drivers have no 'lane discipline' whatsoever. People who think they can hold other people up on the roads are gonna find them selves in procarious positions. If we could understand that some lives are busier than others, we would need to speed, cuz the retard who's blocking lanes, doesn't understand driving ethicate and is so last century. If people are blowing past you or honking your horn. Trust me... your in the wrong, get the F out of peoples way. Especially me. cuz I've got one "at fault" coverage on my insurance, so don't make me use it on you. Right, high speed cop in the regent st ditch. LEARNING is good.
P.S.: Get driving skills. I've been 20 over the limit for 20 yrs and i never get stopped. THAT'S BECAUSE I KNOW WHEN IT'S APPROPRIATE.

  • After sitting in line on a couple of our city's main arteries I don't blame people for speeding anymore! How ridiculous is it that both Regent AND Paris streets are down to ONE lane in each direction!!!!If anything ever happens that we need to get out of town in an emergency we are in serious trouble, great job to whoever decided to work on both roads at the SAME TIME!!!GENIOUS!!!!!!

  • In a lot of areas the posted speed limit is to low any how, just ask any average resposible driver.

  • I am far from being a fan of the police but I see one major difference between driving in Sudbury and driving in almost any other city in the civilized world; police patrols. If you drive down any main route in Ottawa for example, you will see many cruisers doing just that cruising! The mere presence of a police car actually driving on the streets tends to keep people driving near the speed limit. Instead, we have the occasional "blitz" that has absolutely no affect on the daily habits of drivers since they know they'll be OK to drive as fast as they want to for the next 51 weeks.

I don't advocate over-zealous police hauling every driver off the street for going 5km over, but it just might stop the idiots who drive downtown at 70km/h or who drive the kindsway at 90 km/h and ride the bumpers of whoever gets in their way. Until the police actually hit the streets, nothing will change.

  • yes i am not suprised even ordinary people think they are above the law. we have a high level of arrangance in our society.

  • Funny. I'm not surprised either. They were out in the Valley last week, and everyone slowed down for all of 2 days. This last week, everyone has been back to the 'normal' of doing a min. of 90 in a 60. It's ridiculous.

  • Well officers, I for one am not appalled nor surprised! If you were actually on the road in any of those areas it's a common occurance.....shocked most weren't under the influence at the time!!!
