A Sudbury police officer made a second impaired driving bust on Dec. 20 while driving home the impaired driver he had just charged.

The officer was driving the first driver home in an unmarked cruiser when a vehicle blew past him at a "high rate of speed."

He signalled the vehicle over to the side of the road, where the driver — a designated driver — registered a blood alcohol reading of over .08.

Both drivers had their vehicles impounded for seven days and their driver's licences suspended for 90 days.

Another driver was stopped that night and charged with stunt driving after being clocked at 122 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

Greater Sudbury Police checked 369 vehicles on MR 55 at Fielding Road and at the Big Nickel Mine Road at Elm Street during their Festive RIDE spot check on Dec. 20.

  • the stats of drinking and driving are alarming and its a big red flag for the policticians to step up to the plate and protect public interest. but they are to busy handing out money an insidous way of vote buying.and are completely indifferent to this problem. perhaps if one of there family members was seriously injured they would become advocates on this issue.also a major issue is suspended drivers. fines have to be increased start crushing cars of these people. then watch the stats go down in dramatic fashion. oh i forgot the car is the sacred cow of materialism.

  • Maybe they will nab 20 driving out of Cranky Joe's if they set up a spotcheck near by. The creeps are kept busy with their bartender. Never heard that owner give any remorse or apolgy for killing teenagers with his policy of serving drunks.

  • When will people learn that drinking and driving just don't mix. Once again Sudbury's finest at work. And 90 day suspension, not good enough, try one year.

  • When will people learn that drinking and driving just don't mix. Once again Sudbury's finest at work. As for the idiot who drove past the unmarked police car at double the speed limit, shouldn't his car be impounded for stunt driving or something. And 90 day suspension, not good enough, try one year.

  • Just keep drinking and driving guys-you might get away with it once but they will get you, hopefully before you hurt yourself are someone else.
